About Me
Dr. Benjamin Whittam is a board-certified pediatric urologist specializing in reconstructive surgery to correct congenital abnormalities. He utilizes minimally invasive surgical techniques to provide excellent outcomes with less pain, smaller scars and shorter hospital stays. In addition, he uses the latest surgical technologies to provide a new and more cost-efficient option for patients. He is also an Associate Professor of Urology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Dr. Whittam earned his medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College and completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was chief resident in his final year. He completed his fellowship at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. Dr. Whittam also holds a Master of Science in clinical research from the Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute. At Riley at IU Health, he has built a robotic surgical program and a multidisciplinary refractory voiding dysfunction office.
Dr. Whittam is known for his minimally invasive and robotic approaches to surgical management of congenital urinary tract abnormalities, particularly vesicoureteral reflux and ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction.
He also specializes in the management of common pediatric urology conditions:
- Phimosis
- Penile abnormalities (buried penis, penile curvature, hypospadias)
- Undescended testicles
- Hydroceles
- Voiding dysfunction
