Dr. John J. Parent currently serves as the medical director of pediatric cardiac transplantation, cardiomyopathy and advanced heart failure.

He received his MD from Indiana University School of Medicine, where he also went on to do his pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship. During his pediatric cardiology fellowship he obtained his master of science in clinical research from Indiana University. Following his pediatric cardiology fellowship, he went on to do one additional year of training at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in the areas of cardiomyopathy, cardiac transplant, advanced heart failure, and mechanical circulatory support. During his training in Cincinnati he trained under many of the field experts in these areas.

He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. Dr. Parent has a particular interest in inherited forms of cardiomyopathy, including those associated with various muscular dystrophies. His research focuses on the genetics and treatment of cardiomyopathy, with a particular interest in left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy. He has presented his research at regional, national and international meetings.
