He finished a combined Internal Medicine/Pediatric residency at Vanderbilt University in June 1995, then stayed at Vanderbilt an additional year as Chief Resident of Pediatrics. His wife, Ann, is a psychologist with expertise in learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder. They have two daughters, Megan and Katie, and two sons, Matthew and Jackson.
