About Me
Dr. William C. Goggins’ area of clinical practice is adult and pediatric kidney transplantation. He is the surgical director of the IU Health kidney transplant program which performs more than 250 kidney and kidney/pancreas transplants on average annually. Under Dr. Goggins’ leadership, the kidney transplant program continues to expand treatment options for patients, including those who require desensitization therapies, paired donation with non-compatible living donors, are HIV positive, are Hepatitis C positive, or have been considered ineligible at other transplant centers.
Dr. Goggins specializes in anatomically and immunologically complex patients, and is one of the most experienced kidney transplant surgeons in the country. In September 2024, Dr. Goggins performed his 3000th kidney transplant at IU Health. In 2024, he also became the first transplant surgeon in the country to perform a kidney transplant optimized with warm normothermic preservation. In addition to his clinical practice, he serves as the co-director of the IU Health Transplant and Immunobiology Laboratory.
Dr. Goggins earned his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University. He completed a clinical fellowship in transplantation at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He is a professor of surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine where he joined the faculty in 2003.
He has been honored by the Indiana Donor Network and National Kidney Foundation of Indiana for his contributions to his field and community.
