Birthing Options
Birthing Options
We offer a variety of options for your labor and delivery to provide you with an exceptional, memorable and safe delivery experience. When you arrive to deliver your baby, your provider and nurse will discuss which options are available to you, keeping you and your baby’s safe care in mind. These are all provided within our large, modern patient rooms with the latest technology and comforts
- Hydrotherapy uses water – through showers or immersion (tubs) - to alleviate discomfort during birth.
- Waterbirth allows you to deliver your child in one of our specialized, soothing birthing tubs.
- Midwifery offers an individualized, hands-on approach to pregnancy, labor and delivery by partnering you with a certified nurse-midwife throughout your care.
- Pain management uses birthing balls, nitrous gas or epidurals to relieve discomfort during labor.
- Scheduled cesareans are much more than a scheduled procedure; we prepare an individualized plan to welcome your new baby.
Access to Critical Care
If you discover along your journey to delivery that you require specialized treatment for a high-risk pregnancy or an infant with health concerns, we offer the most expert care in the region. As a Level IV Birthing Center along with our Level IV NICU, Riley at IU Health is able to provide you and your baby the highest level of care.
- Maternal-fetal medicine specialists are available for high-risk deliveries or vulnerable babies.
- Our obstetrical intensive care unit is one of only a handful in the nation dedicated to high-risk obstetrics, providing the best outcomes when complications arise.
- An Obstetrical emergency department is dedicated solely to pregnant women should any issues or concerns arise during your pregnancy.
