About Me
Dr. Aki S. Puryear is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon specializing in:
- Complex spinal deformity
- Cervical spine deformity and instability
- Spine trauma
- Spondylolisthesis and spondylolysis
- Disc ruptures
- Spinal stenosis
- Complex limb deformity and reconstruction
- General pediatric orthopedic conditions
He attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University and residency at University of Michigan. Dr. Puryear has been in practice since 2003 and joined Riley Children’s Health in 2022.
Originally starting out in engineering, Dr. Puryear soon switched his interests to medicine as he felt a need to help take care of people. He was drawn to orthopedic medicine, wanting to treat people’s knees and total joints, and realized through his fellowship that he wanted to specialize in pediatrics with a focus on spine and limb deformity.
When seeing Dr. Puryear for the first time, you can expect him to get to know your child as more than a patient. He will connect with your child to learn their interests, what they like to read and what activities they like to do before discussing what ailment has brought them into the office. He will help address both the patient’s and family’s concerns in easy-to-understand terms.
When not treating patients, Dr. Puryear enjoys being outdoors and spending time with his wife and children.
